After what has been a 2020 to forget with how sports have been affected by a global pandemic, the start of the 2021 year hope brings forth expectations of a more normal sporting year and with it, the huge profits that come along with it of handicapping these 5 matchups we are covering here. Let’s begin with a pair of NCAAF playoff predictions:
Alabama Crimson Tide (-20) vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish
You would normally look at a line of -19.5 and think, “Oh so they are playing a cupcake of a team”. Well, with what Alabama brings to the table compared to Notre Dame, one can say Notre Dame is a cupcake. Which QB is better? Alabama’s. Which WR core is better? Alabama’s. Whose running back is better? Alabama’s. Which defense is better? Alabama’s and after the performance they put up against Florida, head coach Nick Saban could not have been any less pleased in their performance on the defensive end, so we are assuming that those problems will be fixed. We honestly don’t think this game is even worth watching because of how one team will dominate on all fronts and the other team will look like children playing in the backyard as they frolic around not really looking like a team that should be in the top 4. But that’s what Alabama does to 99% of their opponents. Make them look like they never should have fielded a team in the first place. Alabama by -20 @ 1.9 odds is the play here.
Clemson Tigers (-11.5) vs Ohio State Buckeyes
This will be one of the more controversial playoff games we can imagine will ever come from the college football playoff simply because of how this year has played out. Honestly, Ohio State did not have enough games played to even prove they are one of the four best and we think after this matchup you will see why. Clemson, with Trevor Lawrence, is the only team that will give the aforementioned Alabama Crimson Tide any sort of competitive game and you will see it in this matchup as Ohio State will probably lose by no less than 17 points as they just haven’t faced a team like Clemson, nor do they have nearly the amount of time played on the field as Clemson. The play here is Clemson -11.5 @ 2.28 odds but we would be comfortable all the way up to -13.5 if you can get a price on that.
Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6)
Nothing like Week 17 in the NFL. You try your best to find matchups that still mean something and surprisingly after some research, this one means a lot. Very rarely, do you get to start a playoff run against an opponent with a losing record and the Bucs get to do just that if they win this game, as they will face the “winner” of the NFC East. (At this point it just seems every NFC East team is wanting the others to win it.) The Falcons have been eliminated for a long time now and we just can’t see them taking this game very seriously, while the Bucs have a great deal to play for as they would face a much tougher team if they do not lock up the 5 seed with a win this weekend. Tampa Bay -6 at 1.92 odds is the play here.
Los Angeles Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs
This truly is one of the most meaningless games on the docket this weekend. So meaningless that the line isn’t even out yet as of 7:00am GMT Wednesday. The Chiefs have nothing to gain as they have wrapped up the #1 seed and would seemingly like to just stay healthy going into the bye week. We would be surprised if you see any of the starters wearing anything but street clothes on the sideline and for that reason we think that the under 44 is in play here at 1.93 odds.
Washington Football Team at Philadelphia Eagles
How could we not cover a game like this that is seemingly 2020 in a nutshell. The 6-9 Washington Football Team and 4-10-1 Philadelphia Eagles being moved to the Sunday night primetime slot because this is the do or die game people have been waiting for all season long. If Washington wins they are in the playoffs, if they lose, the winner of the Giants and Cowboys are in. Yes you read that correctly, two teams that have combined for a 10-19-1 record have warranted a primetime slot from the NFL on the last weekend of the regular season. And because we find this such a ridiculous scenario, why not go for a ridiculous bet to go along with it? The play here is Will this game go into overtime – Yes at 14.00 odds. You couldn’t wrap up the 2020 regular season without a bet like this.
