Fight fans around the world, we’re back with another fight breakdown and predictions blog. This week the action takes place in the boxing ring where we’ve got an interesting fight. We have Jake Paul, a YouTuber with a 2-0 boxing record who claims to be a real fighter, taking on a retired, ex-MMA Champion in Ben Askren. The technique can be taught, but mental toughness comes with experience. Who will triumph?.
Jake’s had intentions of challenging UFC fighters in the boxing ring for over a year now, and he is hungry to prove his skill. Jake has called out multiple fighters in Dillon Danis, Conor McGregor, and Ben Askren. Ben, being the ever so game fighter that he is, has accepted the fight and will step in to represent the MMA community in the Boxing ring. The question on everyone’s minds, will the internet youth energy take over technique and championship mentality? Let’s dive right in!
Jake “The Problem Child” Paul, is undeniably one of the most influential YouTubers on the platform, who is aiming to make a name for himself as a Boxer. He has a 2-0 boxing record (against a fellow YouTuber and retired NBA player). He started boxing 3 years ago and has undoubtedly progressed as a boxer. He now possesses a set of fast and strong hands, not to be underestimated. Jake is a strong athlete, he dominated both his professional boxing fights and secured early knockout victories.
This next fight will be Jake’s biggest test to date, a huge step up in competition, but the Problem Child never backs down from a fight! Jake is not a professional athlete, although he did pursue wrestling in college, and with 3 years of boxing training, he has transformed himself into a capable fighter.
“Funky” Ben Askren is one of the most respected fighters in the MMA community. Ben is an amazing fighter having won championships in multiple MMA promotions and having a 17-0 undefeated record until he entered the UFC. However, we are not in the Octagon anymore, they’re fighting in the boxing ring! Now, Ben is not a boxer, but he has trained to fight for over 20 years and has the mentality of a champion. Ben has taken a beating from one of the hardest-hitting UFC fighters in Robbie Lawler, a striking monster! He overcame adversity and ended up winning that fight.
The UFC gloves weigh 4 ounces, compared to the standard 10-ounce boxing glove; they inflict much more damage! If Askren could not be knocked out in the Octagon by a professional striker in Robbie Lawler, we’re not sure if he gets knocked out by a young Jake Paul in the boxing ring.
Boxing does not involve wrestling, but it sure does involve clinching! Askren, being a top MMA fighter is an expert fighter in the clinch position and he will look to use that to his advantage this weekend. Ben has a notoriously awkward movement pattern when he fights, this will be advantageous for him to fake punches and confuse Jake Paul.
Technique can be taught, but mental toughness comes with experience. Which Jake Paul simply does not have yet in his short boxing career. Jake is obviously the stronger and better boxer here, but the question is, is he the better fighter?
Combat sports is not all about technique, every athlete trains hard but only the mentally toughest become champions. Askren is one of them, he has been there and done that and we don’t think Jake possesses enough of a threat to challenge the experience of Askren.
If you like making money while seeing a YouTuber get beaten, we recommend betting on Askren. Get the elite odds for this fight, only on Stake.
