We’re reaching the end of another controversial yet fun IPL season, and each game going forward is consequential to the leader board.
Currently, 7 teams are mathematically in with a shot at the top 4 spots and each game will be crucial yet exciting.
This week we’ll look at some interesting games, break them down and look at some smart bets to place this weekend, so let’s get into it!
Mumbai Indian v Delhi Capitals
An exciting clash between last IPL’s finalists kicks off this weekend’s doubleheader bonanza for Cricket fans.
The story this season is nothing new for the Mumbai Indians, the 5-time champions have always been in this spot where they put themselves in a virtual eliminator in the league stage. The champions thrive under the pressure and the bright lights to prove time & again that they can never be counted out.
Contrarily, last year’s finalists Delhi Capitals have been in a comfortable spot this season having already booked a seat into the playoffs with 8/11 wins in the group stage.
Both teams have been famous to put up shows for the fans and live up to their famous rivalry through the years.
The Indian’s have gotten the better of the Capitals 16-13 through the years in 29 exciting games and fans will be at the edge of the seat for their 30th clash this weekend.
We can expect another fun match this weekend as the Indians are coming off their first win after the break and are confident they can gain the momentum needed to make the top 4.
Whereas, the Capitals believe they have been near unbeatable this season and they will be too much to handle for the former champions.
Pitch & Weather Report
This match will take place at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium in UAE. This stadium has been famous for hosting some iconic international games through the years and we are in for another classic Sharjah game.
The ground is traditionally meant to be a high-scoring one, with short boundaries and a pitch favoring the batters. Although the story has been different this year at the IPL where teams are averaging 149 runs in the first innings and 131 in the 2nd.
We think the toss could be crucial here and the team winning the toss will prefer to bat first.
This season Sharjah seems like a ground where you want to bat first, put the runs on the board, and put the pressure on the opponent.
DC were missing their in-form star, Prithvi Shaw, in the previous game who is now nearly cleared to come back to the squad this weekend. So, DC will not look to make many changes but will make the simple switch of Prithvi Shaw for Steve Smith.
The MI Paltan ended up dropping their young star Ishan Kishan which was questioned by the fans, yet it ended up being the right decision as they got over the line.
Although we believe they will still debate his inclusion as he is the perfect batsman needed to release the scoreboard pressure on a pitch like Sharjah.
MI are the slight favorite here besides losing 2 of their 3 clashes in the 2nd leg of this season. We agree with the line and think MI will gain some momentum from their previous win and will do their best work under the pressure to get the crucial 2 points this weekend.
Although Sharjah is a small ground, the pacers have been doing their best work at this pitch and we do not think there will be many shots crossing the boundary this weekend. We believe under 13.5 sixes is the play here given the nature of the pitch this season.
