Werder Bremen vs FC Schalke 04 – 1×2 – Werder Bremen @ 1.90
Schalke’s woes in the Bundesliga couldn’t have been any more well documented. One of Germany’s most historic clubs, they look set to be relegated less than two years after competing in the Champions League. If you wanted to describe a fall from grace, going from playing Real Madrid to SSV Jahn Regensburg is a good way to do so. They now travel to Bremen to take on a Werder side who have had a very up and down season. Following a strong performance against Bayern earlier in the season where they were arguably the better side in a 1-1 draw, they find themselves in the lower end of the table, but relegation seems extremely unlikely given the distance between them and the rest, plus the quality they possess. With players like Leonardo Bittencourt, Milot Rashica and hot prospect Josh Sargent, they are a much better side than their table position suggests. Expect them to win and potentially use it to get themselves back into form. 1 unit.
Leicester Vs Leeds – 1×2 & Both Teams To Score – Leicester and Yes @ 3.15
Leicester produced a counter attacking masterclass against Bielsa’s ‘naive’ Leeds Utd in the reverse fixture at Elland road earlier in the season, running out 4-1 winners in a game which could have easily had more goals for both teams. Since then Leicester have been consistently been in and around the top three, winning seven and drawing two of the next eleven EPL fixtures. Brendan Rogers side have been one of the most consistent in the league and with the likes of Barnes, Vardy, Tielemens and Maddison they have plenty of quality to call upon. Leeds on the other hand are probably a more accurate reflection of what the EPL has been like this season, with a lack of consistency in terms of both performances and results. They were fortunate to take all three points in their last outing away at Newcastle, and before that were abject in their 1-0 home defeat to Brighton. However they’ve got plenty of goals in them, putting five past both West Brom and Newcastle (in the previous fixture over the Christmas period). They do also ship plenty of goals, and continue to have injury problems, with Robin Koch still out and Spanish international Diego Llorente limping off ten minutes into his comeback against Newcastle. Despite Vardy being out for this one, we think Leicester will still have too much for Leeds in a game that should have a few goals in it. 2 units.
ATP Cup – Winner – Russia @ 3.10
The only nation boasting a pair of Top-10 ranked players, Russia comes in as an immensely strong favourite to win their group, and a slight favourite to win the tournament. The young Rublev is comfortably the best No. 2 in the competition, and Medvedev has proven that he can hold his own against the big players. With the traditional heavyweights focusing on politics and popularity contests regarding the Australian quarantine processes, expect the determined Russian team to be focused, knuckle down, and get results. 2 Units.
ATP Cup – Roberto Bautista-Agut vs John Millman – John Millman to win a set – Yes – 1.87
It’s safe to say that Roberto Bautista Agut might not be in the best head space coming into the Aussie summer, after comparing his 14-day quarantine to prison. He has come under fire immensely in the media, and has admitted that the quarantine has had an effect on him mentally. John Millman on the other hand is the definition of a battler, and has actually insisted he be put in quarantine for a second time, to be with his ATP Cup teammates! He loves playing in front of his home Aussie fans, and representing his country is a match made in heaven. Before the players even head into Melbourne Park, you can be assured the mental battle is being led by Aussie Millman. Since COVID-19 put a stop to the tennis circuit, Millman has played a touch more tennis than his opponent, and has actually played ten matches since Bautista-Agut played his last. This can only help the Aussie. Millman, while never beating Bautista-Agut, has taken at least one set off the Spaniard in their last four matches. This including a four hour marathon at the Australian Open in 2019, where Millman rallied back from two sets down to force a fifth set.At 1.87, at home, Millman may not just be in the box seat to win a set, but maybe to win the entire match. In saying that, 1.87 is the safer option here, and that’s what we will be taking. 1.5 units.
Houston Rockets vs. Portland Trail Blazers – Handicap (incl. Overtime) – Houston Rockets -1.5 @ 1.75
The Rockets have quietly assembled a solid squad in the wake of blowing up the roster – adding numerous star players who have suffered debilitating injuries in recent years. Three years ago, a core group of John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and Victor Oladipo is a championship caliber team – but all have been cruelled by injury. This season however, they’re all healthy and showing that they still possess great talent. Add to this group a monster big man in Christian Wood and some excellent bench scoring and defending pieces. This team is no pushover, as proven by their current 3 game win streak. Here, they come up against a battered Trail Blazers outfit. With injuries to multiple key staring players, Damian Lillard is having to carry the team. He’s performing well, but can only do so much. We think the Rockets have too much firepower to go down to this squad, and home court advantage will only help them further. 1 unit.
Omega Dubai Desert Classic 2021 – Top Australasian – Jason Scrivener
Lucas Herbert is the favourite in this market based on his maiden European Tour victory here in Abu Dhabi last year. However, after an amazing 29 on the Back 9, finishing with a R4 of 66, Jason Scrivener ended up coming runner-up to runaway winner Tyrrell Hatton. Last week’s weekend form from Dubai plus historical course form in Abu Dhabi, where Scrivener finished 7th in 2019 and 6th in 2018, will stand him in good stead Vs the other Australasians. Currently, the event is underway and no markets are available. Keep an eye out for when they come back as we expect the price will be between 2.00-4.00 and very much value for money. 1 unit.
Furia Esports vs Cloud9 – Total Maps Over 2.5 @ 1.90
Furia might have the edge to take the win here due to better form and a more solid core, but with little history between these two lineups, an upset by Cloud9 is still entirely possible. What I am expecting though is for each team to do well on their own map picks and the third map to be a toss up, a very similar result to what happened on their last matchup under cs_summit 7. 2 units.
