We’re back and we’re ready to do it all over again!
However now, it’s going to be slightly different. The Stake sports team is now competing against one another each week by trying to tip correctly. So now, there’s more on the line and more of a chance of getting every single leg right.
English Premier League – Burnley FC vs Manchester United FC – 1×2 & Both Teams to Score – Manchester United & No @ 2.48
Manchester United are flying high, looking likely to make a genuine title challenge for the first time in years. The catalyst? Bruno Fernandes. Can Bruno be to Manchester United what Eric Cantona was all those years ago? Additionally, United will see the return of their possible new talisman in Edinson Cavani, who was showing the world that he has still got it before his questionable suspension. The Ginger Mourinho will look to spoil the Red Devils’ party, but Burnley have struggled to show the tenacity that they have demonstrated in recent years, and shouldn’t offer much in the way of attacking threat. Don’t miss this vital match as Manchester United try to go top of the table! 2 units here.
FA Cup – Arsenal vs Newcastle – 1×2 & Total – Arsenal & Over 2.5 goals – 2.11
The logic behind this one is simple, and it revolves around Newcastle’s focus on the league, and Arsenal’s strong youngster brigade. Let’s start with Newcastle. Apart from a Quarter Final appearance last season, five out of Newcastle’s last 11 FA Cup campaigns have ended in their first round. From the other six, five have ended in the fourth round (their second match). It is certainly not a cup they take too seriously. In fact, they are potentially set to make 11 changes from their last match, and have also gone six without a win in all competitions. Arsenal on the contrary are back in form, but this is not necessarily the reason for this tip. The tip is based around Arsenal’s insane group of youngsters, which led Arsenal to 18/18 points in the Europa League group stages this season, the only team to do it. All matches went over the 2.5 goal mark too, scoring at least three goals in five out of their six matches. At home, they recorded a 3-0 and two 4-1 victories. It is highly likely that Mikel Arteta will field a similar lineup to the boys who achieved this Europa League feat. Arsenal, after all, do love the FA Cup. Defending their title, they should go onto win this one comfortably. 1 unit here.
FA Cup – Crawley Vs Leeds – 1×2 & Both Teams To Score – Leeds and Yes @ 2.90
It’s FA Cup time, and with a 3rd round bursting with intriguing ties this one certainly still catches the eye. Bielsa’s Leeds are the talk of the Prem this year, with the narrative swinging from most exciting team in the EPL to can’t defend to no Plan B. There may well be some squad rotation for this game but that philosophy won’t change for the trip to Crawley, who themselves are now nine games unbeaten and occupying the final playoff spot in League 2.These two teams get goals, with only the current top 3 and Chelsea having scored more goals than Leeds in the Prem and Crawley scoring the second most in League 2. We expect Leeds ‘Murderball’ to have too much for Crawley, but with all three of their centre halves missing and having conceded the second highest amount of goals in the EPL expect Crawley to bag a consolation in a game that could be full of goals. 2 units here.
AS Roma vs Inter Milan – Double Chance & Both Teams to Score – Roma/Draw & Yes @ 2.21
It’s certainly been a rollercoaster start to the Serie A season! Despite their win against the rejuvenated AC Milan midweek, Juventus seem to be vulnerable for the first time in what feels like an eternity and the title race is as open as it has been for years. Two other teams contending for the Scudetto this season are Paulo Fonseca’s AS Roma and Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan. Both sit in the top three behind Zlatan and the Rossoneri and this game could quite literally define a ‘six-pointer’. A win either way would be a massive boost in these two sides’ bids for the title and conversely, a loss could be very detrimental to those hopes. Picking a winner between these two would be too risky so we’re going to back the strong home form of Roma to at least get a point against an Inter side who have been tough to gauge on the road. Also look for both sides to find the net at some point in what should be a sleeper hit this weekend. 1 unit.
Philadelphia 76ers at Brooklyn Nets – Winner (Incl. Overtime) – Brooklyn Nets @ 2.08
Brooklyn come into this after a rest day, which means the increased chances of Kevin Durant back in their line-up. Not that they necessarily need him after a KD-less Nets demolished a well-fancied, but underperforming, Utah Jazz by 34 points! Here Jarrett Allen notched his 3rd double-double but really impressed Vs Rudy Gobert. Granted Gobert not in the same league as Embiid offensively, but the manner in which he scored 19pts + 18 boards Vs a multi-DPOY was very encouraging. This is all without mentioning Kyrie Irving, who has made an incredible start to the season himself. Philly are coming off a back-to-back vs Washington, where they let Bradley Beal run wild and put 60 up. They had a very nervy 4th quarter, losing the lead at one point after being 21 up in 3Q. Against the BKN Nets, you suspect they will not get away with nothing but their best. 2 units here.
Denver Nuggets vs Dallas Mavericks – Over 224.5 Total Points @ 1.90
Simply put, 2 highly offensive minded teams with less than impressive defensive ratings, plus the absence of a live audience leads me to expect an exchange of baskets in their matchup. We fully expect a free flowing and high scoring game, meaning 1.85 is exceptional value. Back it in, like we are with 2 units.
Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Rams – Handicap (incl. Overtime) – Los Angeles Rams +4.5 @ 1.80
The Rams have been an enigma this season, beating teams merciless after taking embarrassing losses and generally looking like a Super Bowl contender one week and a cellar dweller the next. In a matchup against the Seahawks this week – who have played in more close games than any other NFL team this season – we hope for the Rams to turn up as the team we know they can be and get within 4 points of the team that has scraped through on many occasions this season. 1 unit here.
