We went 2/5 last week and to anyone who backed us in, we’re sorry. But we can assure you that this weekend, we’re going to get some more right!
Check out our weekend sports tips now!
Filip Krajinovic vs David Goffin – Total Games Over 38.5 @ 1.83
This match could be one for the ages. Both Krajinovic and Goffin are high quality players and a matchup like this deserves more than to be in the third round. Goffin has done it the hard way so far, dropping a set in both of his matches. Krajinovic hasn’t been as troubled, hence why he takes a slight advantage odds-wise into this match. Picking a winner between these two would be bold, so we’re going to back their ability and say this goes deep, maybe even the distance. We’ll put 1 unit on this.
Marten Fucsovic vs Frances Tiafoe – Winner: Frances Tiafoe @ 2.31
The big American, who made it to the Quarter Finals of the Australian Open in 2019 at only 20 years old, is in red-hot form. Tiafoe knocked out two ATP stalwarts so far in Andreas Seppi and John Millman. There have been comments that he looks tired and out of shape on the court so far in New York, but the man has always been prone to a huff and a puff. Tiafoe’s power and tenacity could be too much for the Hungarian, who also battled it out in a 5-setter to advance, giving his all to topple Grigor Dimitrov. It’ll be a close match-up, but we’re backing youth, hunger, and determination in this one. We’ll go with 2 units here.
Naomi Osaka vs Marta Kostyuk – Marta Kostyuk to win over 7.5 games @ 1.90
After two strong wins against two former top ten players, Marta Kostyuk is in up to her ears in this contest. Overall, we think world number 9 Naomi Osaka will be too strong, no doubt about it. However, we do see Kostyuk being able to hold her own, and maybe even take a set. Taking her to win just eight games – she can even lose in straight sets, putting up a fight and getting this leg over the line. Another 2 units here.
LA Lakers vs Houston Rockets – NBA Semi-Finals Game 1 – Houston Rockets – Winner (incl. Overtime) @ 3.25
The Lakers go into this (understandably so) as favourites particularly after they’re well rested, not playing since the 25th August. However, this lack of game-time was one factor into their Game 1 loss vs Portland, who similarly to HOU against OKC on 3rd Aug, were in an adrenaline pumping win-or-go home game, taking momentum into their next match. Houston’s 8 man line-up has been playing heavy minutes all season, so the 7-game series should be less impactful compared to Denver for instance.
It is expected the Lakers big men will dominate the Rockets small-ball tactics, but Houston have shown their defence can hold its own enough to give their 3-point powered offence a chance to win any match. For example, with LeBron sitting during the reg. season bubble game, a Lakers team centred around Anthony Davis were restricted to just 97 pts and AD only 17 when the Rockets went on to win 113-97; without Westbrook too. This put Houston 2-1 up in the h2h for the prolonged season. As previously mentioned the Lakers should be be favourites, but a 3.1 shot seems too big – do you give them just a ~33% of winning? We don’t…making the Hou +5.5 line at 2.04 – to give a bit of a buffer – value too.
NFL – Kansas City Chiefs vs. Houston Texans – Handicap (incl. Overtime) – Chiefs -7.5 @ 1.88
The NFL is back! Kicking off the season are the defending champions Kansas City against a hopeful Houston Texans outfit. The Chiefs are well known for their high-powered offense led by Patrick Mahomes with talented skill position players surrounding him, whilst the Texans have a true gunslinger themselves in Deshaun Watson – it should be a very exciting opening contest. We like the Chiefs handicap in this one. Houston has undergone numerous changes to their offensive lineup over the offseason, headlined by the trade of their superstar receiver DeAndre Hopkins in return for out of form running back David Johnson.
The jury is out on whether or not the Houston offense will be as strong now that they no longer possess arguably the best WR in the league. Meanwhile, KC have strengthened a Super Bowl caliber offense by drafting a running back in the first round to fill that hole in their roster and make their offense even deeper. In their previous meeting in the playoffs last season, Kansas trailed 21-0 after the first quarter due to some poor defensive coverage before mounting an incredible comeback to win 51-31. This one is looking like a shootout, as evidenced by the high total set for the match. In such a match, we expect the Chiefs to blow past the Texans and cover the relatively modest -7.5 line – we aren’t averse to the -8.5, either.
UFC Fight Night – Ovince Saint Preux vs Alonzo Menifield – Asian Total – Under 1.5 @ 2.05
This fight looks to be a quick and exciting one. Menifield has knockout power in every blow, while OSP is a serious submission threat, and has some power of his own. Expect some wild shots early on from Menifield – if many connect, 37-year-old St. Preux should hit the canvas fairly quickly. If not, the first round is likely to wind down slowly, leaving Menifield vulnerable to OSP’s patented Von Flue choke. This should be a high intensity match – blink and you’ll miss it! You might also like to pick up Menifield in the Winner market.
Multi odds – 100.60*
