Welcome to the fourth edition of our bi-monthly NBA Column. For those who are new here, we predict the outcome of 7 games in 7 days. This week is a bit special due to the NBA All-Star Break. Therefore, we will be predicting 4 NBA games and 3 NCAA College Hoops games this week. Remember, we do not know the actual spreads on the games yet so please look at the expected outcome of the game in order to bet the proper side. Best of luck and let’s start the month of March off strong! Note, we will be using GMT-8 (California Time) for the days of the game.
Game #1 – Monday – Charlotte Hornets vs. Portland Blazers – Total Over 235.5
This is a very rare total play from us in the NBA. The Blazers are currently on a 4 game losing streak and only scored 93 points in their latest game against the Los Angeles Lakers. They had a terrible stretch on their recent 3 game road trip and are finally back home. For the Hornets, they are currently in the midst of a long road trip where they have been playing literally no defense giving up 132 to the Jazz, 121 to the Suns and 130 to the Warriors. On top of all of this, the Hornets will be on a back to back and are banged up. Expect no defense in this game and this to fly over the total of 235.5.
Game #2 – Tuesday – Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Lakers – Suns by 4+
Don’t look now, but if the Phoenix Suns win this game against the Los Angeles Lakers, they will be the #2 seed in the West. These teams are going in opposite directions and we expect the Suns to be ready for this huge game against the Lakers. The Lakers are losers of 4 out of their last 6 and don’t look like a Championship calibre team without Anthony Davis playing. On the contrary, the Suns have won 5 out of their last 6 and seem to be clicking perfectly. While this may be just another regular season game for the Lakers, expect CP3 to have his team focused for this big game. The Suns should not only cover the spread but should pull the outright upset in Los Angeles.
Game #3 – Wednesday – Indiana Pacers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers – Pacers by 10+
If the NBA Playoffs started today, the Indiana Pacers would be on the outside looking in. Luckily for them, they still half the season to turn things around. Losers of their last 3, the Pacers should be able to dominate this Cavaliers team which is in shambles. Don’t get tempted by the Cavaliers current 3 game winning streak. The Pacers matchup very well against them and should blow them out of the water today. Although we recommend laying the points here, the Pacers will most likely qualify for the NBA Guaranteed Payout Special. We are expecting a blowout here.
Game #4 – Thursday – Miami Heat vs. New Orleans Pelicans – Pelicans by 4+
This is a situational spot for the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pelicans have been the biggest disappointment of the season so far and definitely have their work cut out if they want to make the playoffs. The reason we like them in this spot is that the Heat are in the midst of a 6 game winning streak and will have to travel to New Orleans for just this one game. With the All Star break lurking, the Heat will probably already be on “vacation” when they arrive in New Orleans. Expect them to come out very flat especially due to the fact that they recently just turned their season around. Expect the Pelicans to come out focused and to look like a team that will be ready to turn it on in the 2nd half of the season. Take the Pelicans and expect them to win by 4 or more points.
Game #5 – Friday – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons – Yellow Jackets by 9+
We have two words for you: March Madness. The calendars have turned to March and Georgia Tech is doing their best to make it into the tournament. Winners of 4 of their last 5, the Yellow Jackets have an outside shot to make it in. According to the experts, they are currently one of the “Next Four Out” teams that are trying to get into the tournament. Therefore, they can not have any hiccups along the way. Expect them to dominate the Demon Deacons who have lost 5 in a row and look like they are planning for next year. Take the Yellow Jackets and expect them to win by 9 or more points.
Game #6 – Saturday – Virginia Cavaliers vs. Louisville Cardinals – Cardinals by 3+
This is another ACC matchup that we are focused on. The Virginia Cavaliers are currently on a 3 game losing streak but are only playing for seeding purposes come tournament time. On the contrary, Louisville has two tough games to finish out their schedule that could make or break their chances of playing in the tournament. The Cardinals are definitely on the bubble to make the tournament. A win at home against Virginia will solidify their place into the tournament. Expect them to come with a ton of intensity and win by 3 or more points today at home.
Game #7 – Sunday – Florida Gators vs. Tennessee Volunteers – Gators by 1+
This is a huge SEC matchup for both teams that are desperate to end the regular season and get into the tournament. Just six weeks ago, the Volunteers were 10-1 and looking like a possible #1 seed. Since then, they are 6-6 and are looking like a team with a ton of problems. The Gators are also having problems of their own but have won 3 in a row. The first time these teams matched up, the Gators destroyed the Volunteers 75-49 at home. We expect a much closer game this time with the Gators winning in a nail biter.
So there you have it. The first week of March planned out for hoops. With no major injuries or COVID cancellations, we expect these picks to go 4-3 at the worst. Best of luck and enjoy this week of hoops!
