Welcome to our 16th Edition of our Weekly Preview. This week will be a bit different as it’s College Bowl Season.
With no Thursday Night NFL game, we will be focusing on three college football games and two NFL games.
Hopefully, we will not have any cancellations like we did last week and will have a full slate of games.
We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to going 5-0 to start the new year!
If this is your first time reading our Weekly Preview, we offer a five-day slate of predictions starting from Thursday and ending on Monday.
This covers the NFL Thursday Night Football, a Friday college football game, a Saturday college football game, a Sunday NFL game and finally the Monday Night Football Game to end the week!
With that said, let’s get into the winners for the week!
College Football – Pittsburgh Panthers @ Michigan State Spartans
With no NFL Thursday Night Football this week, we are focused on the Peach Bowl which features two teams that had very successful seasons.
The Pittsburgh Panthers won the ACC in convincing fashion and are looking to have a 12 win season.
The Spartans were not expected to be a great team this year but surprised everyone.
Although they finished the season 2-2, they were ranked #3 in the beginning of November and are looking to close their season out on a winning note.
This game could have featured a lot of star power but both teams have major players sitting out. Kenny Pickett is opting out for this game to focus on the NFL draft.
Pickett, Pittsburgh’s stud Quarterback, had an amazing year and was the reason for the Panthers success.
With him out, Pittsburgh’s offense has to rely on junior quarterback Nick Patti who has thrown for 140 yards this year in garbage time.
Although the Spartans are without their top running back in Kenneth Walker III, we believe that the loss of Pickett is a much bigger problem for Pittsburgh.
With Pittsburgh also losing their offensive coordinator, they are too many question marks surrounding how the Panthers offense will look.
We expect Mel Tucker, who just signed a huge 95 million extension, to have his team focused for this game.
Losing to a backup quarterback will not be a good look when it comes to offseason recruiting for Tucker and the Spartans.
Expect them to be fully focused and dominate this game defensively. Michigan State may look a bit pedestrian on offense but should be able to not only win but cover the spread against a Pittsburgh team that had a wonderful season.
Take advantage of this opportunity and expect the Spartans to win by double digits against a team that is relying on their 2nd string quarterback.
Selection: Michigan State Spartans -2.5 @ 1.87
College Football – Cincinnati Bearcats @ Alabama Crimson Tide
Welcome to the Semi-finals of the College Football Playoff. For the first time in history, we have a non-Power 5 team playing in the Semi-finals.
Cincinnati finished the season with an impressive 13-0 record and are full of confidence. Despite a few close calls throughout the season, Cincinnati was able to navigate through the pressure and remain undefeated.
Their reward? Unfortunately, a Semi-final match up against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Although Alabama has not looked dominate in many games this year, one has to remember that Nick Saban is by far the best college football coach.
After lacklustre and nail biting wins throughout the season, Alabama showed what they were made of by dismantling the undefeated Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game.
We expect Alabama to do the same against the undefeated Bearcats in a game that will not be close. The Bearcats will be overmatched in every position in this game.
Expect this to be a very lopsided victory which will have many pundits arguing that the Bearcats did not belong here in the first place.
While we believe that Cincinnati had the resume to make it this far, the talent disparity will be too much to overcome.
Alabama is clicking at the right time and should be able to dominate the trenches on both sides of the ball.
While the Bearcats may be able to hang tough for a quarter, Alabama should have no problem covering the 13.5 point spread.
We believe they will actually be covering this by halftime and cruise to victory. Forget the regular season, this is Playoff time and Alabama is destined to make the Championship game yet again.
Selection: Alabama Crimson Tide -13.5 @ 1.89
College Football – Iowa Hawkeyes @ Kentucky Wildcats
Happy New Year! To start off 2022, we are focusing on the Citrus Bowl which features two Top 25 teams that are heading in opposite directions.
The #15 Iowa Hawkeyes started off the season 6-0 and were ranked #2. Since then, they have had a ton of trouble offensively and finished off the season with a disappointing 4-3 record.
Coming off an embarrassing 42-3 defeat in the Big 10 Championship game, this team looks like a former shell of themselves.
On the contrary, the Kentucky Wildcats are riding a 3 game win streak and just demolished their bitter rival Louisville 52-21.
These Wildcats average over 430 yards offensively and do it with both the run and the pass.
One of the few teams that average both 200 yards passing and rushing, Kentucky can beat you either way.
On top of that, their defence only allows 22 points per game and should be able to dominate Iowa’s terrible offense.
With the game being played in Florida, we expect a ton of cramps out of the Hawkeyes players. Known for snowy and cold winter games, the Hawkeyes will have a ton of trouble in this hot and humid environment.
Motivation is key in determining the outcome to these bowl games. After losing a chance to play in the Rose Bowl, we expect the Hawkeyes to look like they are on vacation here.
Take the Wildcats and expect this to be a one sided affair.
Selection: Kentucky Wildcats -3 @ 1.98
NFL – Jacksonville Jaguars @ New England Patriots
Isn’t it amazing how a few weeks in the NFL can change anything?
The New England Patriots went from being the #1 seed to the #6 seed and are in desperate need for a win.
Luckily for them, they get to face a Jacksonville Jaguars team that has lost 7 in a row.
The Jaguars had a 1st and 5 to win the game against the New York Jets and managed to mess it up.
Coaching plays a big part in the NFL and the Jaguars are in desperate need for a new coach. We are still shocked that Trevor Lawrence spiked the ball on 3rd and goal from the one went precious time still on the clock.
Like usual, the Jaguars found a way to lose and now they have to go into cold Foxboro and play a hungry Patriots team.
Warm weather teams going up north is something we always like to bet on and we are very confident that the Patriots will absolutely destroy the Jaguars.
Bill Belichick will have his team coached up for this one after losing two in a row.
We expect an absolute bloodbath here. Although laying 15 points is a ton in the NFL, we expect the Patriots to have this point spread covered by half.
Take the Patriots and expect them to destroy the Jaguars in Foxboro.
Selection: New England Patriots -15 @ 1.91
NFL – Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers
The Cleveland Browns still have a decent chance of winning the AFC North if they can manage to string together two wins.
After two straight, two point losses, the Browns simply need three things to happen for them to win the AFC North.
They need to win against the Steelers this week, they need the Bengals to lose to the Chiefs this week and they will need to beat the Bengals at home next week.
Sounds quite simple especially as the Browns are favoured this week and will be favoured next week.
The Bengals are a 5 point underdog to the Chiefs and the Chiefs can’t afford a loss if they want the #1 seed in the AFC.
Therefore, we are banking on Baker Mayfield to have a solid game against a Steelers team that still have their own playoff aspirations but are a wreck on both sides of the ball.
If the Browns can limit their turnovers they should have no problem beating the Steelers here. It’s hard to beat a division rival twice in a year and the Browns are looking for payback after losing to the Steelers earlier.
The Steelers are a very overrated 7-7-1 and we have lost all faith in Big Ben.
They were lucky enough to squeak by the Titans a couple weeks ago due to 4 turnovers by Tennessee.
Last week was definitely a reality check for them as they got destroyed by Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Laying 3 points on the road on Monday Night is always a tough pill to swallow, but we believe Baker Mayfield will shine under the bright lights.
Expect the Browns to play solid defence and limit their turnovers on offense.
Lay the 3 points here and expect a huge AFC North matchup for the division next week with the Bengals facing the Browns.
Selection: Cleveland Browns -3 @ 1.87
With only two weeks remaining in the NFL regular season, we are in desperation mode to hit our multi.
This week it pays 24/1.
Would there be a better way to start off the New Year than hitting this multi? We don’t think so! Best of luck and Happy New Year!
