In the Champions League, the highest level of European football, we have two teams from England duking it out for supremacy. London-based Chelsea will be looking to add to a massive club history, while Manchester City aims to spoil the underdog story. Both teams have been playing great in the latter stages, and it will be a spectacle to observe.
In the Europa League, Manchester United and Villarreal will be in the finals looking to claim a CL spot. Either of these teams will be delighted to have an automatic group stage spot heading into next year, although their domestic standings will probably guarantee it beforehand.
Let’s dive into how these two matchups will go, and what could possibly happen.
Champions League Final (Manchester City vs. Chelsea)
This year’s CL final will be taking place in Porto, Portugal. With two Premier League teams looking to make their respective cities proud. Manchester City enters this contest as the firm favourite, having won the Premier League and looking in-form for the past few months now. Their manager Pep Guardiola will look to employ a star-studded lineup, with all fours covered. Defensively, offensively, you name it. This team is stacked and doesn’t look to be shy for such a big opportunity. Chelsea on the other hand, has had a solid year. They managed to finish in the top four for the Premier League and the Blues have relied on a stout defense as well as a great counter-attacking addition in manager Thomas Tuchel. This game should be one with few mistakes, and all to play for. We believe Pep will game plan better than Tuchel in this scenario, but expect a tight one with City edging it through.
Europa League Final (Manchester United vs. Villarreal)
Like their in-city rivals, Manchester United have been riding a hot wave throughout the whole Premier League season. This form has carried over to European play, as they have decimated and steam rolled their competition in every way possible. Leading up to this point, the Red Devils have created havoc for any opponent in their path, with multiple goals in every game. This will prove to be an issue for Villarreal, as they have not been clean in defense themselves. United will have all to gain in this matchup, as their spot in the Champions League next year is already locked in. Spanish side Villarreal needs to hone in on defense, and create opportunities on the counter-attack by all means necessary. Unai Emery’s side will also need to win if they are to make European football next season, a strong motivator for sure.
For the CL Final, backing City is a great option. Believe in Pep and the team-play that they have reflected throughout the year, and this will be a trophy for them. Manchester City to win 2-1 / BTTS are both good bets, but City will be lifting the cup when all said and done.
Europa League is an easy one as well, and United will have a field day vs. the Spanish team. Man United to win 3-1 or 3-0 is a good bet, and we think they will win convincingly.
