As the later stages of international soccer closes, we open up a refreshed and regenerated start towards club football. The ever-exciting elimination stages of the Champions League are firing up again, and with a whole lot on the line. The quarterfinals are set to begin this April 6, with interesting storylines at play at this point of the tournament such as Liverpool’s bounce back and Bayern’s repeat chances. Predicting the following matchups will be hard to nail, but the excitement and creativity that is to be exhibited by these teams will make for some great fireworks!
Real Madrid vs Liverpool
To truly gauge what this match means to both of the clubs involved, we can look at the press that each has received in the past two to three months. To begin with Real Madrid, their inconsistent form and lack of chemistry between players has proven strong. The results that the fans of such a huge club should always expect, have not been there. On the flip side with Liverpool, a few bad injuries and lack of spirit has resulted in a season to forget. However, both teams could make a strong end with a win here. I think Real Madrid is just overall more solid, and have the defense to take this match throughout two legs. PREDICTION: Real Madrid 3-2 over two legs.
Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund
To say that Manchester City aren’t anything but the massive favorites in this contest, would be straight up lying. The Premier League’s future 2021 champions are looking to maintain one of the most consistent and solid seasons, in football history. Borussia Dortmund is facing a daunting task, that I don’t think they will be able to handle. City will rock onto an easy two legs, not conceding many if any. The easy move, and the most predictable one, is for City to cruise into the final four. PREDICTION: Manchester City 4-1 over two legs.
Bayern Munich vs Paris Saint-Germain
To be fair to PSG, not having Neymar is something that any team would suffer from. However, they have given themselves a shot with great performances against Barcelona in two dominations. Kylian Mbappe is still a problem, and looks to be ever improving in a world he soon should be able to conquer. Bayern Munich the reigning champions, are looking better than ever, but still a little shakier on defence than they would like. If Neymar returns with even 60 percent of himself, PSG can ramp up the pace and score goals on Bayern. However, that is a big IF, and I still trust the German Powerhouse. PREDICTION: Bayern Munich 5-4 over two legs.
Chelsea vs Porto
In a match where two teams have made quiet but steady runs in the Champions League, Chelsea looks to book a trip to their first CL SF’s in a decade. Having picked up new life and form under manager Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea have grown in every game since the swap, and don’t look to be slowing down any time soon. Porto went through against Juventus in a tie that no Porto fan will ever forget. A couple of game-breaking mistakes by Juventus saw them crash out, and let Porto through. I’m backing Chelsea and their strength these past few months. PREDICTION: Chelsea 4-2 over two legs.
If we take the predicted winners and pit them against each other in the last four, we can see multiple interesting matchups. While the clear and cut best two teams from these four would be Manchester City and Bayern, Chelsea and Real Madrid have potential to mess the game up. Manchester City has the lineup and roster to start multiple different positions, something that not many of the other teams can say themselves.
The ability to rest up, and rotate is something that is grossly underestimated in European football. However, anything can happen in this setting, and that’s what makes it so exciting. A bold but not impossible underdog to win the whole thing would be Chelsea at 6.50 odds.
They possess the firepower as well as defence to potentially upset the big dogs, and will put up great resistance. Manchester City at 3.25 odds is not a bad bet, but like I said, anything is possible. Look for this tournament to produce great matches, goals of the season, and nail-biting penalty shootouts. The format and teams always delivers for some great fights, and haymakers being traded is a guarantee! Enjoy your betting, on stake.com.
