Fight fans we are back with another night of crazy fights to look forward to. Weekends are always more fun with the UFC and we’ve got an interesting fight night card this weekend to enjoy. Many UFC contender series house names are fighting on the prelims in competitive matchups, but the main card involves veterans of this game. Edson Barboza and Kevin Lee both fighting on the main card were both top 10 lightweights and now are competing in completely different weight classes against top contenders. These fights are very close and competitive on paper and we cannot wait for them to play out, so as always let’s dive right in!
Kevin Lee Vs Daniel Rodriguez
We kick things off in the main card with the long-awaited Welterweight debut of former title challenger Kevin Lee. After a lot of controversies, he finally has a dance partner in the dangerous contender Daniel “D-Rodd” Rodriguez.
Kevin Lee has been a well-known name in the UFC, having fought the who’s who on the roster in his 7-year stint. Kevin is primarily a wrestler who carries dangerous finishing abilities on the feet.
He has fought former and current champions in Tony Ferguson, Charles Oliveira, and Rafael Dos Anjos, etc. Although Lee has not come out on top on all occasions, he has gained immense experience and he believes this will help him hold the Welterweight belt one day. Kevin has finished 7 of his 11 wins in the UFC via vicious submission & knockouts. His 3 knockouts and 8 submissions combine for an impressive 11 career finishes.
Kevin has shown weakness in getting caught in submissions while wrestling with his opponents which will not be a problem this week when he faces a striker. This weekend he will look to get an impressive win to kickstart his journey towards the title.
Kevin’s dance partner this week is Daniel Rodriguez who transitioned into the UFC through the contender series in 2019. Daniel is an elite striker with a base inspired by Muay Thai, he likes to keep a tight boxing range in his fights at the back of his knockout power.
Daniel’s 12 career finishes include 8 knockouts and 4 submissions which combines for an impressive 80% finish rate. He also prides himself on never being finished in a fight and always believes in biting down on the mouthpiece and scrapping.
His 2 career losses have come via close decisions; hence Daniel does not believe in leaving his fate in the judge’s hands. Currently, on a 2-fight win-streak, a win over someone like Kevin Lee will get Daniel what he has been aspiring to, a number next to his name.
This fight brings a really interesting clash of styles, as the pathway to victory for Kevin Lee is to gain Daniel’s respect through some early power shots and eventually getting this fight on the mat to threaten submissions. Contrarily, Daniel Rodriguez will look to enter the distance throw his shots and keep his distance maintained. Daniel will keep switching from his tight boxing range to an outside kicking range as the takedown threat from Kevin is genuine.
Ultimately, we believe there is value in betting on the veteran here, as he has taken his time off from the game to evolve and found a new weight class to showcase his skills. We think his wrestling is elite level and Daniel does not possess any submission threats on the ground. For the fight fans that think this could be a close decision, can capitalize on our promo, where we will refund bets if your selection loses via split decision.
Prediction – Kevin Lee by Decision
Stake Odds- 3.20 (Odds are subject to change*)
Edson Barboza vs Giga Chikadze
A top 10 bout in the featherweight division headlines this fight night card and this matchup is a striker’s delight. It’s always fun watching a fight between 2 strikers trained in different forms of martial arts play out.
Edson “Jr” Barboza is one of the most talented and entertaining fights on the UFC roster. He has been entertaining fight fans with his wild fighting style since he entered the UFC Octagon in 2010. Barboza has been awarded 8 fight of the night and 2 performance bonuses for his entertaining fights in the Octagon.
Barboza entered the UFC as an undefeated fighter with a 100% finish rate, and he won his first 6 out of 7 fights in the UFC which got him involved with big names such as Donald Cerrone, Michael Johnson, and Tony Ferguson, etc. Barboza has knocked out top contenders such as Dan Hooker, Beniel Dariush, and Shane Burgos.
Barboza has continued to impress fight fans and prove that he is still capable of competing at the highest level. Barboza is a Muay-Thai-inspired striker who uses his low calf kicks and body kicks to effect. He has been improving on his close-range striking but distant striking remains his strength. A win this week over a tough top 10 Giga Chikadze will set him up for a top 5 bout.
Georgia’s Giga Chikadze’s step-up in competition this week has got him a main event spot against the veteran. Undefeated in the UFC, Giga has been on a 6 fight win streak and his 7th win will give him the limelight needed to chase a title shot.
Giga is a great striker as well with a base in kickboxing, he enjoys his distance in fights and is an expert at liver kicks which have been famous named “The Giga Kick” by fight fans. An impressive 70% finish rate which includes 8 knockouts, and 1 submission makes Giga a feared opponent for every Featherweight.
His latest knockout of Cub Swanson got Giga Chikadze the recognition he needed to begin a journey towards the title. Back-to-back performance bonuses have given him the confidence needed to pull off another performance bonus-worthy performance this week when he enters the Octagon to face Edson Barboza.
This fight is a dream matchup and a treat for all the fight fans tuning in this week. Edson Barboza has shown the cardio to outlast his opponents and he will utilize that against an inexperienced Giga who steps up for his first 5 rounder. Edson will look to use his low leg kicks, get into a clinch as being a Muay-Thai expert gives him the ability to utilize knees effectively.
Giga Chikadze is a fast starter and looks to utilize his boxing and kicks early which will give him the striking edge in the initial rounds. Giga’s pathway to victory is his famous body kicks and utilizing his jabs to maintain the distance to maximize his reach advantage.
Ultimately, we are predicting the experienced fighter to showcase a striking Clinique. Edson should weather the initial storm and display his experience by looking for a finish in the championship rounds. The fight fans who agree with a finish here can capitalize on our Double winning promotion.
