Nina Ansaroff vs Mackenzie Dern
Fight fans around the world, we are back with another stacked fight night this weekend. This is one of the better fight night cards of this year with tough matchups between title-challenging contenders across divisions. In the main card, we’ve got a Women’s Strawweight scrap involving the veteran rank 5 Nina Ansaroff taking on the rising contender rank 11 Mackenzie Dern.
Nina, the wife of the female goat Amanda Nunes is making her come back into the octagon after 2 years. Despite her layoff, Nina remains a fierce athlete while maintaining a top 5 rank in the Strawweight rankings. Nina has had notable wins in the UFC over top contenders in Angela Hill and Claudia Gadelha. A win over a rising star in Dern puts Nina back into the Title fight picture. Nina is primarily a striker with a taekwondo fighting style, she has 4 knockout wins in her UFC career.
Dern is one of the most exciting prospects on the Strawweight roster having finished 3 of her last 4 wins. With multiple performance bonuses in her resume, Dern is here to challenge the best and make it to the top. Dern is on a 3-fight win streak and has set herself for a title fight debate provided she gets her hand raised this weekend. Dern is a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and her submissions skills are one of the best in the UFC roster. Dern is a former world no.1 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion, her boxing looks better fight after fight, and we think she’s a problem for this division’s top fighters.
This fight is underrated, we have a classic veteran vs upcomer clash and these are always fun to watch. This fight could be a back-and-forth affair which gives the judges a tough night of scoring. It’s an important fight for the division as it clears the picture and carves the way for a title-challenging contender.
Ring rust is the absence of mental sharpness in a fighter due to lack of fight activity. We have seen two extreme cases of ring rust, Brian Ortega who took 2 years off and came back better than ever, and Conor McGregor who got knocked out after a layoff. This fight depends on Nina, as we’re curious to see if she’s still hungry to fight for a title and if this layoff has made her a better fighter. On the other hand, Dern has had nothing but activity in Nina’s absence having won 3 fights in a row since Nina last fought. Although Dern is getting better at boxing, Nina should have the advantage of standing up as she has knockout power. If this fight hits the matt, it’s going into Dern’s world of mixed martial arts, she’s too dangerous on the matt for anyone in this division. This is a great fight for both these fighters as the win over the other helps them make a statement. When two fighters have finishing ability, the fights usually turnout to be a chess match and a war of patience. As much respect as Nina has earned in the octagon, we think Dern is currently the better fighter here and her being an underdog is a great play here. With the fight being so close, you can capitalize on our split decision promo and get your money back if Dern loses by Split Decision on the judge’s scorecard.
Prediction – Mackenzie Dern by Decision – Stake Odds – 4.70 (Odds are subject to change)
Arnold Allen vs Sodiq Yusuff
In the Co-main event of the evening, we have a featherweight clash of two undefeated UFC contenders, rank 10 Arnold “Almighty” Allen taking on rank 11 “Super” Sodiq Yusuff.
Allen is 7-0 in the UFC octagon; he is a well-rounded fighter having 5 knockouts and 4 submission wins in his win column. Allen dusted veteransin Nik Lentz and Gilbert Melendez along his path to featherweight gold. Allen is dangerous wherever this fight goes, he brags a good ground gameat the back of his 55% takedown success rate. Allen has a high significant strike defense, blocking 68% of his opponent’s best shots on average. Allen has not quite grabbed the attention of fight fans but if he can take out a tough man in Sodiq this weekend, he sets himself well for a big fight.
Super Sodiq is one of the most exciting prospects in the UFC right now, boasting a dominant 5-0 record in the UFC with 2 brutal round 1 knockouts of rising contenders. Sodiq is primarily a boxer with heavy hands that can switch his opponent’s lights out. He is yet to display his boxing against a ranked opponent in the division. Fight fans are on the Super Sodiq hype train and are convinced he has the caliber to the UFC’s 4th African champion at some point. Being in the co-main event live on ABC provides Sodiq a great opportunity to show his skill to the world. Sodiq has not completed a single takedown in the UFC, he is always out there to give the fans an exciting knockout.
This fight is so tough to call, a clash of 2 top undefeated UFC contenders, and the only one makes it to the top. Both of them are so tough, they will look to take the other out and make a statement. Don’t miss this scrap, we can guarantee that this one is an absolute banger.
Although Allen is a great boxer, he would want to take Sodiq to the matt as he is the superior fighter on the ground. Sodiq’s strength is his boxing, he would like to keep the distance and pick his shots to damage Allen. It’s a clash between Allen’s ability to take Sodiq to the matt and Sodiq’s grit tostand and bang. Sodiq prides himself on his 73% takedown defense which will be tested come Saturday night. This fight is going to be explosive, both of them have the biggest stage of their life’s being on the Co-main event of an ABC fight night. They will both look to come out hard and walkout with the respect of fight fans. This is a pickem affair, Sodiq’s boxing and explosive fighting style is so tough to deal with. We are on the Super Sodiq hype train and if you agree with the breakdown join us by betting on him.
Prediction – Sodiq Yusuff by Decision Stake Odds – 2.55 (Odds are subject to change)
Marvin Vettori vs Kevin Holland
Main event time, this fight was originally meant to feature Darren Till, but we couldn’t have asked for a better late replacement. A consequential matchup in the Middleweight division headlines this event, rank 6 Marvin “The Italian Dream” Vettori takes on rank 10 Kevin “Trailblazer” Holland.
Fighting out of the red corner, Marvin is the only person to have a split decision result with the reigning king Israel Adesanya. He proved his skill when he pushed the current champ to the limits and has risen up the ranks since that loss. Marvin is highly skilled and as well-rounded as they come, a brown belt in Jiu-jitsu and his striking has never looked better. Marvin has been dominant in his wins; he has out-landed his last 4 opponents by 35+ strikes each. Vettori has allowed his opponents to have an average of only 9% control time over him in the UFC. It may look like Marvin is facing an inferior opponent in Holland, but this win helps him make a statement as Holland is still a dangerous top 10 opponent.
Fighting out of the blue corner, Kevin Holland has stepped on 2 weeks’ notice to save the show for one of the UFC’s top fight night events in 2021. Holland lost his last fight, but people forget that this man set the record for most wins just last year. Holland is a very unorthodox striker, he hits his opponents with side kicks, slaps, and awkward hammer shots. Holland has a distance strike accuracy rate of 53% and if he lands clean, he possesses the ability to knock his opponents out. Although Holland got out grappled in his last fight, he is a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and still dangerous off his back. Holland is a big mouth and will entertain the fans regardless of his performance each time he enters the octagon. From telling Jacare Souza, that he had a dream about him in the middle of a fight to asking Khabib Nurmagomedov for grappling advise in between rounds of his last main event clash.
This is a tough fight for both men, Marvin is the superior grappler here while Holland being the more dangerous striker. They both are good wherever this fight goes but they both will look to play to their strengths to get their hand raised. Like we said in the last Kevin Holland fight breakdown, we have never seen Holland in a boring fight, and we think this weekend would be another Holland cracker.
Marvin Vettori is looking for 1 victory which will help him make a case for that Adesanya rematch. Holland was dissed for being a loudmouth when he lost his last fight, and he is looking to get back in the win column. Marvin Vettori is the bigger and stronger man; he will look to out-grapple Holland like Brunson did and get his hand raised. Marvin, unlike Brunson, possesses submission threats which are dangerous as he can finish Holland on the ground. Whereas Holland will look to keep the distance, hurt Marvin, and eventually look to take him out with his unorthodox striking. Will the loudmouth back it up this time around or will Marvin make a case for Adesanya to run it back with him?. We think Vettori is more well-rounded and looking at Holland’s takedown defense, it will be a long night for Holland. Marvin Vettori is the play here and looking at his submission arsenal, you can get on our main event double winnings promotion and get paid more for backing the favorite to finish this fight.
Prediction – Marvin Vettori by Submission – Stake Odds- 3.15 (Odds are subject to change).
